Greece calls for bids on medieval castle in Corfu

Greece's privatisation agency (HDRAF) has called for bids on the Castello Bibelli, a property on the island of Corfu that includes its own medieval castle.

It is located around 13 kilometers from the main town of Corfu and is spread over some 77,000 square meters.

The agency said that the main "Castello" building on the property is a stone building with tiled roof of outstanding architectural merit in the Neo-Gothic style, whose special features are the two towers and an atrium, as well as other ancillary buildings.

It was built at the start of the previous century by the Italian Admiral Bibelli and the property is of major historical and architectural importance, resembling a medieval castle. In 1992 a section of the property and two of its buildings were assigned to the National Gallery and are used to house and store works of art.

Interested buyers have until October 26 to submit their offers.
