Municipalities will be able to finance the restoration of old buildings in their possession as part of European Union funding provided to Greece, said a government official Monday.
The funding, totaling 50 million euros, can be used to pay for improvements to the buildings that will be used for tourism, cultural and other business events, said the government official. The funding comes from Greece's EU Partnership Agreement for the Development Framework) 2014-2020.
Among the conditions set for the financial assistance is that the councils must have owned the building for more than 15 years and it needs to cover more than 500 square meters.
Applications for the funding can be submitted as of January 8 and cannot exceed 2.5 million euros each.
