Tourist numbers jump more than 20% in May


May has proven to be a bumper month for Greece’s tourism industry with growth in foreign arrivals exceeding 20 percent at most of the country’s airports, according to data provided by Fraport Greece on Friday.Fraport Greece, that took over the management of 14 of Greece’s top airports last year, said that the biggest rise was in Mykonos which saw a 42 percent in foreign tourist to 72,655 people, followed by Kos (36.2 percent to 290,105) and Cephallonia (35.2 percent to 73,623). ext on the list came Santorini (30.9 percent to 114,970), Thessaloniki (22.1 percent to 417,063), Rhodes (23.9 percent to 563,766), Corfu (24.7 percent to 326,797).

Greece's booming tourism industry has helped prop up the parts of real estate market with foreign buyers targetting popular holdays destinations such as Mykonos and Crete.
