Property tax burden in Greece among highest in Europe
The tax burden on property owners in Greece is one of the highest in the European Union, according to figures from Eurostat, the EU’s statistics service.
Data shows that in 2015 Greece came in third place, behind France and Britain in terms of property tax paid as a percentage of gross domestic product in 2015.
Greek real estate owners pay in taxes what amounts to 2.5% of the country’s GDP. In neighboring countries such as Italy, Cyprus, Bulgaria and Turkey, the total property burden is considerably lower, according to the data.
