Beach rules get tighter for investors
Greece is tightening the rules on public beaches being handed over to investors, according to a legal amendment submitted to parliament on Monday.
The amendment, put together by the Environment Ministry, reduces the time period investors can use the beach area, to three years from five.
"This time period is sufficient for a return of investment but is also enough to deter additional expenses being incurred by the investor, such as building on the area," said the proposed law.
Other changes also include the switching over of the tender process to an on line procedure and requiring a ministerial deciosn to hand over beach area for scientific research purposes.
