Greece has submitted to parliament a draft bill forbidding property owners from renting out buildings that have breached building regulations.
In a bid to boost state revenues and clean up the country's property sector, Greece has been cracking down on illegally built homes. The sale of a property in Greece now requires an engineer to sign off on the building, showing that no rules have been broken.
In order to encourage homes owners to fully declare assets to authorities, Greece also offers discounts to fines imposed for building violations.
The procedure allowing for property owners to voluntarily declare their assets and all relevant building violations has been extended until June, 2019, according to the draft bill.
