Smaller retailers miss out on tourism boom-traders group

Not all of Greece's retailers are reaping the benefits of the country's tourism boom with smaller players seeing a drop in business during summer, a leading traders groups said Tuesday.

Figures collected by ESEE traders group showed that retailers saw an average drop in turnover of 3% over the summer sales period with a large difference in results among stores, depending on their size and location.

Revenues among sole traders in regional and suburban areas fell by up to 15% from last year while larger players located in tourism districts booked a 3% rise in revenues.

The performance of traders in areas frequented by tourists also varied with the center of Athens being the best performer.
