Athens-Thessaloniki will take 3 hrs 20 mins-min
Work on the Athens-Thessaloniki train line is moving ahead and the trip will take 3 hours and 20 minutes as of this Fall, according to Transport Minister Christos Spirtzis. Currently the train trip linking Greece's two largest cities takes between 5 to 6 hours.
The minister said on Friday that work on upgrading the route is on target and that it is a project that will completely change the country's transport map.
Some of the construction projects on the Athens to Thessaloniki network are now complete and have come into operation as of January in a plan that allow trains to travel by up to 200 kilometers per hour.
The upgrading of Greece's central train route had been launched in Greece some 15 years ago but the project went off track amidst Greece's severe economic crisis.
