Tax office to start Airbnb platform in June

The Finance Ministry will operate by the end of the month an electronic platform for property owners to list details of short term rentals, said Giorgos Pitsilis, Secretary General for Public Revenue (Greece's tax office) , on Wednesday.

Despite having been announced months ago, the Finance Ministry has yet to introduce the platform which will force property owners to declare income from short term rentals or face fines.

"We are in the process of holding talks with platforms, like Airbnb, and other national ones, in regards to the issue of information, and by the end of this month, the register will be ready on which owners will have to list details of short term stays and also provide their mobile phone numbers," said Pitsilis.

Property owners that do not declare income from short term rentals are liable for a fine of up to to 5,000 euros.
