170,000 properties go to Greek state after owners forgot to declare them
The head of Greece's national cadaster service, Vyron Nakos, said that 170,000 properties will be transferred to the state after their owners failed to declare them to the land registry within the time period given.
Property owners have 14 years to declare their property to the cadaster service once it starts recording real estate in an area, or otherwise lose the property to the state.
In an interview to state owned Athens News Agency, Nakos said that procedures transferring ownership of the 170,000 properties to the state will gradually commence.
He said that the land registry has covered some 30 percent of land rights in Greece and that procedures are currently underway for another 60 percent of land rights.
