Three Metro stations will open up in 2019, extending Athen's growing underground train network to the west of the city.
The stations at Aghias Varvaras, Plateia Eleftheria (Korydallos) and Aghios Nikolaous (Nikaia) are set to open up by the end of June. They will extend line 3 which currently runs from Aghia Marina to the Athens International Airport.
The next step for the Metro will involved adding a station at Maniatika (Piraeus) in 2020 in what is seen a major boost for the region.
Jointly funded by Greece and the European Union, the Metro station network has sharply improved traffic conditions in the city since being first introduced in 2000, playing a significant role in reshaping Athens' real estate map.
