Turkey home sales to foreigners soar 82pct in Jan
Homes sold in Turkey to foreign nationals soared 82 percent last month with Istanbul drawing most of the business, according to the latest figures from the country's statistics office.
A slide in the Turkish lira against the dollar to record lows last summer prompted a spike in demand for Turkish homes from foreign buyers though the currency has recovered about a third of losses since then.
The data shows that 3,168 homes in Turkey were sold to foreigners, up from 1,742 in the same period a year earlier.
Istanbul topped the list of choices among foreigners who picked up 1,361 residential homes sold in the country's largest city, with the holiday resort of Antalya coming in second place (601 homes sold). The capital Ankara came in third place with 182 homes changing hands followed by Bursa (177) and Yalova (162).
The largest chunk went to Iraqis, who acquired 605 properties , followed by buyers from Iran, Palestine, Russia and Afghanistan.
