US home buyers prefer Mykonos, Germans eye Thessaloniki and Dutch like Athens

Interest from foreign buyers looking to invest in real estate in Greece is up 25 percent from last year's levels, says classifieds site spitogatos, amidst strong demand for homes in the Athens beachside district of Glyfada and the island of Santorini.

US buyers mostly search for property in Santorini, Mykonos and Glyfada, while German's prefer northern Greece, more specifically Thessaloniki, Kalamaria and Kavala, according to spitogatos. Property hunters from the UK have their eye on a place in Rhodes, Glyfada and Kolonaki as potential Dutch investors search through the central Athens area of Mets, Pagrati and Neos Kosmos to buy real estate.

The rest of the top ten of searches held on spitogatos based on country are the following:

-Chinese prefer Tinos, Kifissia and Glyfada

-French prefer Paros, Syros, and Kolonak-Lycabetus area

-Australians like Glyfada, Kalamaki and Santorini

-Swedes look through Rhodes, Kassandra, Halkidiki and Volos

-Bulgarians eye Kavala and Sithonia, Halkidiki

-Canadians like Kalamata, Glyfada and Santorini
