Pandemic pushes more Athens home buyers to western suburbs but Kolonaki tops list
The central Athens areas of Kolonaki and Ambelokipoi were the most sought after neighborhoods among those looking to buy a home in the Greek capital last year, with interest for cheaper apartments in the western suburbs rising fast, according to Spitogatos.gr.
Figures provided by the home classifieds site shows that most searches targeted homes in Kolonaki-Lycabettus, Ambelokipoi-Pentagono, followed by Pangrati, the historic city center and Kypseli.
The data confirms recent trends for strong demand in real estate located in the heart of Athens but also shows that the pandemic has pushed many buyers to examine cheaper options in the western suburbs.
The number of searches for property for sale in Nea Filadelfia and Acharnes jumped 35 percent last year.
When it comes to renting a place the top five list comprises of Ampelokipoi-Pentagono, Pangrati, Neos Kosmos, Kolonaki-Lycabettus and Petralona.
In the northern city of Thessaloniki, the central district and Toumba topped preferences among both homes buyers and renters.
